How To Pick A Horse Winner

Hey there, so it is your first time at the race track and you are wondering how to pick a horse winner when betting with the racetrack. Well today we are here to tell you it is far easier than one would imagine, the easiest part in fact is deciding which horse to bet on. However below are a few tips to help you in determining how to pick a winner in the world of horse racing. For this we will be focusing on thoroughbred racing.

Pre Race Parade:

Prior to the horses entering the gate each horse does a parade from the stables to the gate, here fans both new and experienced get one last look at the horse before making their final wager on the race. Here are a couple of tips when determining how to pick a winner during the pre race parade:

- Assess the State of Mind: During the parade, there are always a few horses that are nervous and will be uncooperative during the pre race parade. We suggest you avoid these horses as there unstableness in the pre race may be foreshadowing for the actual race.

- Assess the Horses Body: While the horses participate in the pre race parade, one key to determining if a horse may be the winner is by looking at the horse's body. If you can see the horse's ribs this suggests that the horse is super fit and likely has the best odds to win the race.

Event Race Program:

Aside from the pre race parade another way to assess which horse to choose is by looking at the program offered by the race track. Here are two tips:

- Look At the History of the Horse: When looking at the race program, look into the horses history, as you can determine the outcome based on the horses previous races. If a horse has won more than five races, this is a good horse to wager on.

- Look At the Condition of the Track: Some programs depict how a horse has run previously at the track you are watching. If a horse has had previous success either by outright winning or place and showing, then this is the horse you should wager on.

Breeders Cup Classic

While the big three races are over for online sports betting, there is still one more classic before the season ends: The Breeders Cup.

This year’s edition will take place at the Santa Anita race track and it is sure to be a star-studded event. Mine That Bird, the 2009 Kentucky Derby winner, and the sensational filly Zenyatta and Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird will be taking part in the event.

But to a lot of casual bettors surprise, even though there is plenty of big names in this race, the favorite is currently Rip Van Winkle. Second in line on the odds is Zenyatta, the filly that has yet to lose a race.

One surprising omission is Rachel Alexandra. A lot of people were hoping that they would get to see a showdown of fillies between Alexandra and Zenyatta, but that will have to wait until the Triple Crown races next year.

Keep an eye on Summer Bird in this race, who is somewhat of a forgotten underdog. Currently sitting at +700, that’s fairly good value for a horse that has won a Triple Crown race and is jiving pretty well with jockey Kent Desormeaux. This horse can win long races and has great closing speed – maybe as good as anyone in this race outside of Mine That Bird.

Our pick for the big race is Summer Bird. The value and the pedigree are too hard to pass up.
